THROMBOSIS AND HEMOSTASIS SCHOOL
INFORMATION
At the initiative of the “Benign Hematology Bulgaria” Foundation, the THROMBOSIS AND HEMOSTASIS SCHOOL will take place from March 20 to 22, 2026, at Hotel Calista, Stara Zagora Mineral Baths. The Foundation aims to support the professional growth of healthcare specialists, particularly when such development directly benefits patient care.
While some medical students begin their studies with a clear idea of the specialty they wish to pursue, others are still exploring their options. Research shows that only about a quarter of students who enter medical school with a specific specialty in mind maintain that choice throughout their education.
At every stage of a medical career, mentorship and guidance from experienced specialists can inspire motivation, clarify career paths, and reveal new opportunities. This project aims to promote clinical hematology and enhance practical training during the final two years of medical education.
The initiative is organized by the “Benign Hematology Bulgaria” Foundation with the support of the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Hematological Diseases – Sofia and the Association of Medical Students in Bulgaria.

Each approved applicant will receive written confirmation by March 1, 2026.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
I. General Requirements
- Medical students in the 4th, 5th, or 6th year at accredited medical faculties in Bulgaria
- Successfully completed preclinical and clinical courses according to the curriculum
- Declared interest in hematology and areas related to thrombosis and hemostasis
II. Academic Criteria
- Minimum overall GPA of “Very Good” (5.00)
- Recommended completed courses:

- Pathophysiology
- Pharmacology
- Internal Medicine
- Pediatrics
III. Motivational Criteria
Motivational Letter (up to 300 words), in which the candidate describes:
- Reasons for interest in thrombosis and hemostasis
- Expected benefits from participation
- Professional plans and the role of this training in achieving them
IV. Scientific and Extracurricular Activities (Advantageous)
- Participation in student sessions, congresses, scientific projects, or internships related to hematology, coagulation, thrombosis, anticoagulant therapy, or transfusions
- Publications, posters, or scientific abstracts are considered an additional advantage
V. Communication and Language Skills
- Proficiency in English – minimum B1 level, for working with international guidelines.
In case of equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with a higher GPA.
*Approved participants may be asked to provide an Academic Transcript to verify their grade point average.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATION
Hotel accommodation and meals for participants will be covered by the organizers.

Only medical specialists and members of Health and Patient organizations are allowed to participate in medical events, after filling out a registration form. Accompanying individuals are not allowed to attend. Within the framework of the scientific forum, no entertainment services will be provided.
